Upholstery
We pick up your furniture and complete all work in our local workroom. Great care is taken to ensure that fabrics
are pattern matched including skirts, cushions and back panels. From start to finish, each piece we re-upholster,
from a small footstool to a sprawling sectional, is measured with precision, sewn with skill and delivered with pride.
Fabric Information
Understanding fabrics and a good way to help determine the wear quality. Fabrics are measured by a machine called
either Wyzenbeek and Martindale. These machines simulate someone sitting down and getting up, this is considered a
"double Rub". They test until the fabric has two broken strands of material. Typical residential grade fabrics start
at 25,000 and commercial starts at 100,000 double rubs. The double rubs give an idea of how long the fabric will last.
If you think about it, and you used a chair twice a day every day of the year (365 times 2 equals 730). You would
have generated 730 double rubs in one year. So a fabric with 30,000 double rubs, should last 40 years. This kind
of give an idea of how long fabrics should last. If your buying new furniture you may want to know the double rubs
of the fabric. This may save you lots of money and avoiding the purchase of furniture with 1000 or less to 5000
double rubs. We hope this is helpful information.
Should I Reupholster?:
We are often asked, is this sofa worth the value to re-upholster? The question is a personal question to many
customers because there is sentimental value. If there is sentimental value in most cases it is well worth it to
re-upholster and preserve and or use the sofa. Get some great use out of your furniture and enjoy knowing this was
your mothers, grandmothers or some other person of charm or love in your life.
There are many other valid reasons to re-upholster as well. Here are a few ideas-
- The furniture fits well in your home
- It is well constructed, the frame work is far superior to that of new furniture, today.
- You purchased expensive furniture and recovering is cheaper than buying new high quality furniture
- You have been to the local showrooms and cannot find anything you like
- The quality of the fabric used on re-upholstery is much greater than on the new furniture you have seen
- It's good for the environment, instead of throwing out the old furniture you update it with new fabric and maybe re-styled.
- You have a nice antique that needs a new look.
Upholstery Preparation:
First, we must remove all the old fabric from the furniture. This allows us to examine the framework. At this point
we analyze:
- springs,
- joints in the frame,
- and padding.
If repairs are needed, we take care of them right away. Re-gluing the joints in the frame are done with clamps,
staples and high quality glues.
Springs are retied using the old fashioned "8-way" hand tying. This method is the highest quality and most
durable repair for the springs.
The padding is evaluated to determine if new foam is needed. In some cases it is just of matter of steaming out the
old foam and bringing it back to it's original quality. If the foam does not bounce back, we replace it, using the
highest quality foam. We always wrap all cushions with high quality polyester fiber for added cushion and style.
Customizing:
If the furniture is being customized, we do this after the prep work has been completed. Restyling comes in many
variables. We can:
- restyle the frame
- customize the upholstery
- restyle the design of the furniture
We have changed sofa's into loveseat's, chair's into chair and a half's or loungers, and many more. If you are
changing your tailored look, we can change arm styles, skirt styles, pillow styles, and more.
We work directly with you to determine the restyling you desire.
Reupholstering:
With over 51 years of craftsmanship, we take great pride in adding new fabric back onto your furniture. All seams
are carefully tailored, all patterns in the fabric are lined up with the backs, seats and decks. This creates a
beautiful, designer look to your furniture. When we are done, you are left with a "new" piece of furniture. We guarantee
all our work to assure you are always satisfied with your newly reupholstered furniture.
